Give your neck a stretch without harm.

Stretching our body improves mobility and circulation. One area that often gets sore and needs dedicated time is the neck. But what is the correct way to give it a good stretch without causing harm? When it comes to you neck just think North, South, East, and West.

Now this is not to be done in a rolling motion as that is when injuries could potentially occur but rather one direction at a time. Let me give you a quick walk through.

North-with shoulders rolled back and down standing up or sitting up straight look up. Hold for 5 seconds and only go as far that feels good to you without you feeling you need to arch your back. Slowly bring you head back to starting position.

South-Again with good posture bring your chin to your chest and look down. Again, hold for five seconds.

East-I know I am repeating myself, but you want to start with good posture and then slowly bring the earlobe to the shoulder keeping the shoulder down. Hold for 5 seconds. For a deeper stretch bring your hand from the arm you are stretching towards up to hold the side of your head.

West– now repeat in the opposite direction holding for 5 seconds as well.

This is great to do pre-workout. If you are at your desk for long periods of time. Your neck is feeling stiff and just to keep your neck moving more freely. As you are reading this give it a try. What do you have to lose….20 seconds 😊
