While our chiropractors are always happy to see you and help you back to a better state of health, they also know your general recovery and day-to-day wellness will be so much better if you help it along by making sensible lifestyle choices at home, too. We asked them what they wish they could remind their patients of every day, and these were their top five pieces of advice.

  1. Exercise is everything – it’s just so important for mental health and reducing overall pain and stress on your body. Don’t get caught up in not knowing where to start. Just get out for a walk – not matter how long – and extend it a bit every day. Don’t overcomplicate the situation, make exercise easy and you’ll do it regularly.
  2. Sleep is crucial for overall good health and one of the biggest enemies to getting that sleep is drinking alcohol or eating too close to going to sleep. Night snacking and alcohol will really mess with your sleep, so try really hard not to do it.
  3. Don’t let injuries linger – get on top of them early as late intervention often makes it a harder and longer recovery.
  4. Drink water! Dehydrated patients experience more joint and muscle pain, headaches and migraines, back pain, pain sensitivity, fatigue and mental strain.
  5. Good posture isn’t just something you think about when you’re sitting at your desk. Try and maintain good posture throughout the day, whether you’re sitting, standing, or walking. Try to be mindful of keeping your back straight and shoulders relaxed, even when you’re using your phone or driving.
