What is the Psoas?

noun, plural pso·ai [soh-ahy]

The psoas is a long muscle that connects the lower spine hip joint.

When you are sitting for long periods of time – like most of us do – this muscle can become extremely tight which can cause back pain, discomfort, and stiffness.

Here are a couple of things to help keep your psoas and your body happy:

  1. Get up and move as much as possible. If you can, a standing desk is a brilliant solution.
  2. Stretch it out!

One stretch is the runner’s lounge. With one foot flat on the floor and the knee at a 90 degree slowly bring the opposite knee to the floor. You can put the top of your foot to the ground for a deeper stretch. Hold for 1-2 mins and the switch sides.

The health and flexibility of your psoas makes an impact on your spine so taking care of your psoas your psoas will take care of you.
